Two years ago here on this blog I wrote about Heather Knight who makes phenomenal porcelain tiles inspired by natural elements from her studio, Elemental Clay. Jennifer Prichard works out of her studio in Austin, TX, J Prichard also making textured porcelain tiles but taking it to a new level with amazing wall installations as well.

Her piece, Whori, is made of up many, many little porcelain cup like shapes all clustered together. In this installation I love how the color of the cups reflect the color of the brick wall behind it.

Another installation in the same vein is much larger and shows the changing density of objects clearer, which I love. I like that these installations can be inside or out, customized by color and each installation is unique.

Here you can see both the items that make up the whole and the whole itself. It looks almost mossy – or like ivy crawling up this interior wall. I love the green too to emphasize that natural, growing, contagious-like quality.

Here we get into Jennifer’s tiles, this one called, Frottage. You can sort of make out where the individuals are. Where as Heather worked mostly in plain, naked porcelain, Jennifer’s works have a different kind of depth given how the glaze pools and thickens and in the folds of her tiles’ textures.

Loop. How cute are these. These seem to be stacks of the shapes she uses for the wall installations. They almost look like cartoon flowers. I do wonder how she affixes her works to the walls as well as if these are build on the wheel then scored and slipped together into stacks. Who knows!

I love the circles in this tile. It looks like maybe they were made as a full slab and then cut up but I’m not sure. The edges being irregular I’m very into – I could see this in my house someday.

This one is naturally called, Fizz, which is exactly what it looks like it should be. The bubbles of porcelain appear suspended in glaze…is that even possible?
